Hen House Family Restaurant in Springfield

The Hen House Family Restaurant stinks. VERY slow service, most of the food that came to the table was at best like warm (not hot), and the Hash Browns were over cooked and the edges burnt.We should have visited the Cracker Barrel down the street instead of the Hen House.The family does NOT recommend the Hen House Family Restaurant!

Chicken fried steak was not so good, but the other 4 folks at our table really enjoyed their meals. Service was very good, and the atmosphere was fun. Looking forward to trying them again.

Definitely different atmosphere but the service and the food we're great.

The food here was fantastic! We were staying at the Motel 6 that is right by it and this place was highly recommended! There were quite a few people in there and there was only one waitress, but she made sure everyone was being served promptly. The food came out super hot which was fantastic, and it even tasted great! I would highly recommend this place to anyone that is in the area!

The food and service was good. But I ordered a sausage and egg sandwich to go..I should have checked it because it was missing the egg.

I asked if the mashed potatoes were real & was told yes. They weren't. They are instant. I had the pork chop dinner. The chops were greasy & tasted like old burnt oil off the grill. The best thing about the meal was the tea. I'll never go back. Waitress was nice. This was the Springfield, Illinois location.

Nice hidden gem, it's located just slightly off interstate I55 and the Toronto Road exit. It's almost out of view if you aren't looking for it. This has been a Springfield staple for years. Food is very good and very close to a good home cooked meal. Staff are friendly and the coffee doesn't stop flowing. Someone is always coming by to ensure you have a full cup. It's worth the stop to grab a bite.

A home-cooked breakfast or a great home-cooked lunch or dinner that I recommend highly. (Very fair price!)

Stopped for a quick breakfast. Biscuits and gravy were great along with perfectly cooked eggs, hash browns, and bacon. 2 meals, coffee and soda $18. Service was also quick and friendly

Old fashion diner that serves a tasty and reasonable priced breakfast. Lunch also served. Closes at 3pm. Social Distancing followed.

I drove by my whole life and never stopped in until today.

Wife ordered a salad lettuce was wilted and no good. My burger was not up to par.Ordered cheese fries appetizer, itCame with 10 fries.Etc.Service was a 2 as well 🤷‍♀️

Great food and great prices! The breakfast is delicious and my son loves all the different kinds of candy and gifts they have for sale! Nice homestyle place, reminds me of my grandmothers favorite diner. We will be back!

The coffee is solid! The homemade pie heavenly. And the fried chicken super tasty. You'll find the prices, serving sizes and kids menu options better than a "barrel of crackers"

The servers are good friends. Service nor food was good. It's a bit generic. I love mom and pop cafe's. It's unfortunate that they have complacent. (My opinion)

If you’re looking for a quality, mom & pop breakfast, this is the place to go. The coffee is hot and rich, the toast is buttered to perfection and the eggs are cooked exactly as ordered. The atmosphere is quaint and homey, the staff is friendly and unobtrusive.

Old fashioned home town Cafe. Pork tenderloin was hand pounded and breaded. Hash browns were crispy and really good. Husband had eggs, bacon, and biscuits and gravy. Biscuits were light and fluffy and gravy was obviously homemade. Service to start out was a little slow but food came out quickly once we ordered.

What a great place to eat! Not only is Hen House Restaurant very affordable it is also very tasty comfort food. The atmosphere is very relaxing! Smiled while drinking my coffee. 😊

The Turkey and Ham Sandwich and the Chicken Tenders were really good!! The ribeye steak was very good thin and dry. Mac and Cheese was delicious and could tell it was homemade. Great prices and service. Very good overall country cooking

hey are not shy about flavor. It is simple, well-done food made from excellent and fresh ingredients. The guacamole was absolutely the best I've ever had. The hot salsa was very hot but full of flavor.
